Day 28

1. Use the photograph to tell how tall the women is. Explain the procedure that gave you this answer

The women is 7 feet and 1 inch tall. The procedure is as follows:

  1. The length of the book in the picture is 9/16 of an inch. The length of the book in the real world is 11 inches. The scale factor is the long length divided by the smaller length. In this case the scale factor will be nineteen. The womens height in the picture in 4 and 5/10 of an inch. The womens height in the real world is 7 feet and 1 inch. I got that by multiplying 4.5 and 19. I got 85.5 inches as a result. To convert it to feet and inches you divide 85 by 12. you divide by 12 since that is how many inches are in a foot. Now you do the same for the length of the book in the photograph.

2. How do you think the police determine the robber’s height?

The robber’s height is determined by the photograph height times 12 to get the real life height.

F.U

1. Estimate the height of the door.

The door is about real world 32 inches. That means 2 inches in the photograph.

2. Do you think this is an over estimate or under estimate?

This estimate is a under estimate since it should be around 44 inches.
